Why OKC Potholes Are Destroying Your Alignment
Anyone who has driven I-35 through downtown OKC or taken I-40 past Meridian knows the truth: Oklahoma roads are rough. Between the constant construction zones, aging asphalt, and winter freeze-thaw cycles that crack pavement open like eggshells, potholes are a fact of life here. And they're doing real damage to your vehicle.
How Potholes Destroy Alignment
When your tire drops into a pothole at 40-60 mph, the impact force can exceed several thousand pounds concentrated on a small contact patch. That force transfers straight into your steering and suspension components — tie rod ends, ball joints, control arm bushings, and strut mounts all absorb that hit.
Even one bad pothole strike on Memorial Road, NW Expressway, or Reno Avenue can knock your toe and camber angles out of spec. Over time, repeated hits accumulate damage that wears your tires unevenly and pulls your vehicle left or right.
Signs Your Alignment Is Off
- Vehicle pulls to one side — on a flat, straight road your car should track straight with minimal steering input.
- Uneven tire wear — check the inner and outer edges of your front tires. If one side is significantly more worn, alignment is the likely culprit.
- Steering wheel off-center — if your wheel sits crooked when driving straight, your toe angle has shifted.
- Vibration at highway speed — this can also indicate a bent wheel or thrown wheel weight, both caused by pothole impacts.
The Worst Roads in the Metro
Based on what we see from customers, the most punishing stretches right now include the I-35/I-240 interchange area, SE 29th Street through Del City and Midwest City, sections of Council Road in Bethany, and pretty much any road in the Bricktown/Deep Deuce area after winter. The construction zones along I-40 near the crosstown have been brutal on suspensions for years.
What OKC Mobile Auto Can Do
We perform mobile alignment checks and front-end inspections across the entire OKC metro — from Edmond to Moore, Yukon to Midwest City. We'll check your tie rods, ball joints, control arms, and wheel bearings on-site, measure tire wear patterns, and let you know exactly what needs attention. If components are damaged beyond a simple adjustment, we can replace tie rod ends, sway bar links, and control arm bushings at your location.
