Game Day Car Prep: Don't Let the Super Bowl Leave You Stranded

Super Bowl Sunday is basically an unofficial holiday in Oklahoma. Whether you're heading to a packed-out watch party at Whiskey Chicks in Bricktown, grabbing wings at Buffalo Wild Wings, or rolling up to your buddy's house with a cooler and a lawn chair, your car needs to be ready for the night.

The Pre-Game Checklist for Your Car

Here's the thing about Super Bowl Sunday: you drive somewhere in the late afternoon, your car sits in a parking lot or on a side street for four to five hours, and then you need it to start at 10 PM when it's 28 degrees outside. That's a recipe for trouble if your vehicle isn't in good shape.

Run through this quick checklist before kickoff:

  • Battery check — February in OKC means cold. A weak battery that barely cranked this morning might completely give up after sitting in freezing temps for hours. If your engine has been turning over slowly, get it tested before game day.
  • Tire pressure — Cold air drops your tire pressure by about 1 PSI for every 10-degree temperature drop. Low tires mean less traction on cold roads and worse fuel economy driving across town to whatever party you picked.
  • Headlights and taillights — The game ends late. You'll be driving home in the dark, probably in heavy traffic with everyone else leaving their parties at the same time. Make sure every light on your car works.
  • Wipers and washer fluid — February fog, mist, or even a random ice storm can show up out of nowhere in Oklahoma. Don't get caught with streaky wipers and an empty reservoir.
  • Fuel up beforehand — Gas stations near popular sports bars get packed on game night. Fill up earlier in the day so you're not waiting in line when you just want to get home.

Don't Be THAT Person

We've all seen it — the game ends, everyone's hyped (or devastated), and one person in the group is standing in the parking lot with a dead car, asking strangers for a jump. Don't be that person. A little preventive maintenance goes a long way.

If your car has been acting funny — rough idling, slow starts, strange noises — get it checked out before the big game. OKC Mobile Auto comes to you, so you don't even have to leave your house. We'll inspect everything right in your driveway so you can focus on your bracket predictions and chili recipes.
